Abstract

Some publisher's correspondence is present, but most of the collection is a documentation and listing of the wonderful and very popular Western historical illustrations and paintings of artist and author Nick Eggenhofer. Many photographs of his work are included , along with various biographical articles. Books and journals illustrated by Eggenhofer are present in this special collection.

Abstract The JHS collection consists of three (3) record storage boxes, eight (8) photograph boxes, and two (2) negative boxes. The collection occupies about nine (9) linear feet of shelf space. The JHS collection contains correspondence, exhibit catalogs, scrapbooks, clippings, photographs taken by JHS and friends, photographs of JHS' paintings, telegrams, notes on paintings, cancelled checks, ephemera, and other miscellaneous materials. The order of the materials is based on Mr. Fenn's arrangement....

Abstract

Photograph copies of 28 watercolor paintings, a photograph (possibly of Wm Shepherd), 2 transparencies, 2 negatives of each painting and 4 copy pages of newspaper clippings of book reviews for “Prairie Experiences in Handling Cattle and Sheep” written by Major William Shepherd and printed in 1885 by O. Judd Co., New York. Watercolors, photographs and book reviews were mounted in an album. The five pen and ink illustrations of the book were based on these watercolors.

This is copy #3 of a limited run of 7 copies self-published by the author. Includes a July 6, 1991 afterword by the author. Post and hole plastic binding and cover.
