Scope and Contents

The story of a helicopter rescue of a big game hunter in Paradise Valley located about 40 miles west of Cody. The subject was Dr. J.H. Kerr from Akron, Ohio a veteran of 20 big hunts in the Cody area. Dr Kerr’s horse had fallen, and Dr. Kerr had cracked some ribs and was having trouble breathing at the 10,500 altitude. Question was how to rescue the doctor as bad weather was moving into the area. Rescue by horse was iffy as a cracked rib might puncture a lung so a helicopter might be the only choice if they could find a helicopter. A helicopter was found in Salt Lake, Utah but it had to be trucked 600 miles to Cody before a rescue could be mounted. It was decided that a light plane would accompany the helicopter in case the helicopter got in trouble. After a very scary ride to Paradise Valley the helicopter landed and picked up Dr. Kerr who had bandaged his ribs himself and Dr. Kerr was flown the highway where an ambulance took Dr. Kerr to Cody. The weather was a little better, so the second Dr. Kerr was flown out and the outfitters brought down the game killed by the doctors. Photographs accompany the article as Jack Richard was in the small plane that accompanied the helicopter on its rescue mission.
