Billings Gazette article 12/19/1962 speaking to the subject of Elk Herd kill off. There were Congressional hearings on the subject in Bozeman MT. Live trapping and transporting seemed to the choice of most of the participants.

Jack Richard sent an article to Readers Digest speaking to the evidence of over population of elk in Yellowstone following a very bad winter. Article explains how the census of elk was to be taken and proved the fact that an NPS survey of 10,000 from 1961 was in fact correct and live trapping and herd reduction was the correct answer to the over population.

Letter from Department of the Interior to Jack Richard thanking him for his input on the question of over population of elk in Yellowstone.

Letter dated 03/24/1962 from the Cody Lodge of BPOE to all Elk lodges in the USA offering solutions to the over population of elk in Yellowstone. Wyoming Game and Fish wanted to trap large numbers of elk and transport them to other parts of the state. Article states fear that elk will be wiped out and the symbol of the Elks lodge will be extinct.

Letter from Yellowstone Park to American Heritage magazine stating that the Park Service does not have any aerial pictures of Yellowstone but there are three individuals Jack Richard, Fred Martin and Jack Haynes who would probably have aerial shots of Yellowstone.

Billings Gazette article dated 02/06/1963 states that elk reduction is finished in YNP for this year.

Billings Gazette article dated 01/28/1963 describes how 1500 hunters descended on Gardner MT for a special elk season close to Yellowstone Park.

Cody Enterprise article dated 04/12/1962 claims the Elk Count is Substantiated according to Jack Richard who attended a meeting in Gardner, MT where the Park Service and outside observers gave their final census number of elk in Northern Yellowstone Park.

Billings Gazette article dated 05/26/1962 states the Park Service will continue to monitor elk populations to keep herd in line with food sources.

Cody Enterprise section dated 04/12/1962 which shows problems with over population of Yellowstone by Elk.

Article in unknown paper about Bison who range in and out of Yellowstone Park, concern over brucellosis was a topic.

Copy of Bozeman Daily Chronicle article dated 04/08/1990 speaking to hunting bison outside of Yellowstone Park boundary. Main concern is brucellosis which people say infects half of Yellowstone Park herd.
