SONG BOOK
Original Songs the Texas Rangers Sing. Kansas City, Mo.: Midland Music Co. 1946. Includes words, music, piano accompaniments, guitar chords, photographic illustrations, and brief history of the group. 47pp, table of contents, no index.
The "Texas Rangers" were a singing group formed in the 1920s who made their mark in the early '30s broadcasting over the CBS radio network from KMBC in Kansas City. The Governor of Texas is said to have made them honorary Texas Rangers in 1939, and soon thereafter they made some movies and did radio shows with Gene Autrey and John Mack Brown. The Texas Rangers songbook, published just after the war, is an archive in itself, with a host of photos and promos. Most (all?) of the songs were written by "Captain Bob" Crawford, the leader of the troupe.
