West Virginia University. Shooting is a popular sport in the U.S. It's estimated there's 3 shooters for every golfer. The right for people to bear arms for peaceful purposes is guaranteed to us by the Constitution of the U.S. The NRA is in charge of all rifle shooting w/in U.S. boundaries. The NRA was given this power by an act of Congress. The rifle team at WVU is sponsored jointly by the military and athletic depts. The military furnishes ammunition, targets, rifles, some equipment, transportation and a coach. The athletic dept.takes care of lodging, meals, schedules, and some of the equipment. The rifles used by most of the team members are made by Anschutz, a German manufacturer. This rifle is used by all Olympic shooters and costs about $300, weighs about 16 lbs.and is fully adjustable. No magnification devices are used in competition shooting. Talks about the 2 types of scoring used in the U.S., time limits, trigger weight regulations, beginning of the match..etc. The person scoring the target cannot know whose target he is scoring; therefore, each shooter draws a number and targets are numbered accordingly.
