The Bayonet, Ft. Benning, GA, Oct.2, 1970-Pg.31. The one Marine (CWO Gilmer R. Murdock) and four Army shooters selected by the U.S. to defend the team and individual championships won by this country in the Counseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Rifle Championships last year will have experience gained in many national and international matches to rely upon when they fire against shooters from seven other countries in the 1970 CISM Matches to be held here Sept. 29- Oct.7. Maj.John Foster is from a shooting family. He and his wife Trish are members of the team that will represent the U.S. in the 40th World Shooting Championships at Phoenix, AZ, this October. He won a Gold Medal and was a member of teams that won 2 Silver Medals at the 1961 World Moving Target Championship at Oslo, Norway. In 1962 he won a Silver Medal and was a member of 2 teams that won Silver Medals at the World Shooting Championships at Cario, Egypt. At the World Shooting Championships held at Wiesbaden, Germany in 1966 he won a Gold Medal and established a World Record with the free rifle at 300 meters. He was also a member of the team that won Gold Medals. In 1968 he was again a member of the U.S. Olympic Team and this year won the Indoor Nat'l Rifle Championship. The article also speaks about the accomplishments of the other team members: Maj.Lones Wigger, MSgt.William E.Krilling, 1st Lt.Lanny R.Bassham and CWO Gilmer Murdock.
