Scope and Contents
"U.S.Military Marksmen Garner The Gold, take Sixth Straight CISM Championship". At this year's "Military Olympics" held in Kungsangen, Sweden, the U.S. shooting team claimed its sixth consecutive overall championship, sweeping every gold medal in the process. In the 2 individual rifle events, American marksmen took both the gold and silver medals...Lones Wigger took Gold medal w/ top score 565 in 300M standard rifle match. 4 points back, Boyd Goldsby got Silver. Marine David Boyd- Gold in 300M military rapid-fire rifle w/ 3-position aggregate of 269. Runner-up and claiming Silver medal, Maj.John Foster posted 268. In rifle team events the U.S. combination of Wigger-Boyd-Goldsby-Foster proved unbeatable, winning the 300M standard rifle shoot w/ 2238 points and the 300M military rapid fire w/ 1055. All CISM competitors were invited to participate in the Nordic Shooting Championships which combines cross-country running w/ frequent shoot stops. Unfamiliar to U.S. shooters, they decided to be good sports and entered both rifle and pistol. To the amazement of the Scandinavians, F. Higginson won bronze in pistol competition. Although the U.S. riflemen did not fare as well, several did manage to place among the top 10 finishers.
