*The USAMTU made a victorious swing through TN and north GA and opened the Smallbore Rifle competition for the coming season. In the Tennessee State Gallery Championships at Nashville on Saturday ,Maj.Lones Wigger walked off with the four-postion smallbore rifle grand aggregate championship while his teammate, Maj.John Foster, did the honors in an encounter at the Mid-Winter International Rifle Championships at Norcross, GA, on Sunday. At Nashville, Wigger, national position champion six of the past nine years, won three of the four individual matches and grabbed the grand aggregate with 798 of a possible 800 points. Wigger led his champion Army team into the winners circle, to give the Fort Benning-based marksmen a clean sweep of the TN matches which were fired on the Nashville indoor range using conventional targets and scopes. *In GA, record breaking was the order of the day as the Army squad and a two-man Army Reserve team hung up nine new national records at Norcross. The Army's two-man wrecking crew of Foster and Wigger set new heights in the aggregate when they won it with their combined score of 2,334 for open and service records. They also established open and service records in winning the half course. In the quarter course iron sight int'l competition, Maj.Bruce Meredith and 1st Lt.Thurston Banks, gained laurels with their record breaking scores of 583. This set both open and reserve high marks while Foster and Wigger at 580 gained a new service record. Individually, Foster grabbed the tournament plum when he fired a top aggregate of 1,168 in the three-position smallbore iron sight tourney. He also won the kneeling event and tied the standing match on his way to the championship.
