This clipping was in a folder marked "1974" but the article makes no mention of Foster's "1171" score found in folder #438. This clipping headline: "Marks Set by Army, Reserve Shooters". Fort Benning, GA - More than a dozen national shooting records were broken by Army and Army Reserve teams during the Indoor Rifle Sectional Championships here. Heading the list of winners were Maj.Lones Wigger and Capt.Lanny Bassham. Wigger swept the Champion of Champions Conventional with 3199 of a possible 3200. Wigger went on to fire a perfect 800 of 800 in the conventional Nat'l Sectional Championship, tying his nat'l record, while teammates Maj.John Foster and Bassham finished only one point back at 799. The 3 marksmen were joined by Lt.Ray Carter to post a total of 1597 of 1600 to win the four-man team championship. In team competition, Wigger, Foster, Bassham and Etzel swept all events with records. In the NRA Three-Position, their team total of 1175 was three points over their old record. Their final team score in the ISU Championship of 4700 points was 34 points over their previous record. More than 30 of the country's best marksment were on hand for the 10-day shoot. The Army Reserve squad indicated that it will be a team to be reckoned with in the National and International Championships and final Olympic Trials in Phoenix AZ, in June.
