Headline: "Wigger wins Champion of Champions match". Maj.Lones Wigger, Nat'l Smallbore position champion (USAMU), in usual championship style of bullseyes maxed the cousre in the 2200 point Champion of Champions at Ft.Benning of Feb.14. Runner-up, Capt.Lanny Bassham w/a score of 2195. Maj.Jack Foster was 1 point down from 3rd place laurels. In Army 2-man teams, Wigger and Foster placed a new national record w/their perfect 600 of600 while Wigger, zeroed in for a perfect score of 400 to lead the 4-man team into the championship circle w/a combined score of 1599 and a 2nd Nat'l record.Etc. * In a follow-on Indoor Sectional Smallbore Rifle Championship, Capt. John Writer, grabbed a close decision championship with his near perfect 799 of 800 on Feb.17 in a bid for the national title. The Championship bid, was one point less than the national record 800 set by Wigger and Foster in 1966. The national champion is determined by the NRA after the scores from all the sectionals in the nation are forwarded to Washington, D.C. for comparison.....A U.S.Army Marksmanship team of Wigger, Bassham, Foster and Goldsby surged into the championship circle with their combined 1593 to claim the first place laurels over a aspiring Reserve quartet.
