Triumphant U.S.shooters returned home Mar.28....Because the Benito Juarez matches are not recognized as a world-level competition, the scores will not count as a world record....In the Open competition, the U.S.shooters were led by Army Capt.Lanny Bassham...He picked up gold medals in 3-position smallbore rifle and air rifle. Bassham's winning totals were 1160 and 385 respectively. In the 13 Int'l events in rifle, pistol and shotgun competitions, the U.S. claimed 10 individual Open titles and 9 of the team events for a total of 19 of a possible 26 gold medals. etc. (para. 11) Successive victories the remaining 3 days...Sp5 David Kimes in standard rifle and Maj. John Foster in 300-meter free rifle. Kimes'margin of victory in the standard rifle competition was 5 points,as he posted 575. Kimes then finished as runner-up to Foster in the 300-meter event. Foster's gold medal winning performance was 1154; Kimes fired 1145.
