Scope and Contents
With his 3rd victory in as many days, veteran rifle marksman Maj. Jack Foster was biggest contributor to Army domination of the 15th annual, at Ft.Benning,GA. As the 2 week marathon of matches went into final phases, Army had a large lead in honors w/13 of 15 individual marksmanship crowns. Foster, former World Shooting Championship gold medalist, claimed his final shooting crown-nixed efforts of a large mixed contingent of military contenders for top spot w/his 3-position high power rifle aggregate of 570 out of 600 possible. In the 60-shot event, Army shooters swept into 1st two places. Foster's earlier victories, coming Fri. and Sat., were earned in 3-position Smallbore Rifle at 1164 and in 40 shot Air Rifle contest where he took top honors at 386...Capt. Lanny Bassham claimed victory in 300 meter Free Rifle...Behind Bassham w/his winning 1138 in Free Rifle, Foster again claimed some of the laurels w/his 1135. Capt.Boyd Goldsby was 3rd w/1126.
