Scope and Contents

The USAMU honored 17 men and women by inducting them into the International Rifle Hall Of Fame. Among those honored for excellence in the sport of rifle shooting were the NRA's Gary L. Anderson and Lones W. wigger Jr. The ceremony took poace at fort Benning, GA in conjunction with the NRA's National 300 M Rifle Championships. To be inducted into the Hall, a shooter must have been on active duty in the Army at the time he or she competed. All those honored have won either and Olympic medal or the World Championship in a rifle event. The shooters honored ranged in age from their late 20s to almost 70. Of the 17 inductees,three are women. Margaret Murdock, a former NRA board member, was the world champion in 1970, and the silver medalist at the Olympics in Montreal in 1976. Etc.....Other shooters honored included: Verle wright, Dan Puckel, John Foster, Tommy Pool, Don Adams, William Krilling, John Writer, Lanny Bassham, Ernie Vande Zande, Glenn Dubis, and the late Martin Gunnarsson (whose wife, Alice, was on hand for the induction).
