Scope and Contents
Headline: Army Rifle Gold Medal To Foster. The 40th World Shooting Championships came to a close at a banquet at TowneHouse after medal ceremonies. There was a grumbling about how the event was run and so-called anti-American decisions of the International Shooting Union. It has to be called a success due to the fact the 50-country event was a volunteer effort. John Foster, who lists his home in Phoenix, picked up a gold medal during the final event, the army rifle. Foster posted a 566 score...etc. But Americans lost the team gold, taking second w/2,223 after tying the Russians. It was ruled that Russia should be first because of the higher kneeling position scores. Foster led the USA and was aided by Lones Wigger's 553, Lanny Bassham's 552 and Bruce Meredith's 552. Etc (pistol shoots). Individual scores listed in the article. Medal Roundup (Gold, Silver, Bronze): Russia 40 (16-17-7) #2 USA 32 (11-11-10)
