Headline: Phoenician wins world shoot title. Maj.John Foster of Phoenix won the Army Rifle Match gold medal in the finale of the 40th World Shooting Championships and the U.S. and Russia tied in the team event w/scores of 2,223. USSR team's higher Kneeling scores gave it the gold medal w/ U.S.taking silver and Poland w/2,204, bronze. When scores reported from the target pits were posted, the U.S.was ahead by 6 points. But for the 2nd time, U.S.shooters failed to gain a single point in the final checking of targets, while the Russians picked up enough for the tie. Maj.Foster, who placed 2nd in the 300-meter Free Rifle match Sun.,after being ousted from a 1st place tie w/Valentin Kornev of Russia under the same tie breaking rule, fired a 566 X600 yesterday, 4 points better than his nearest competitor. Vladimir Agishev of USSR was 2nd w/562 and Kornev 3rd w/560.
