Foster's visit was the weekend of 10/31 and 11/4. Both articles are the same. Hamilton was honored this weekend w/a visit by the world's army rifle champion Maj.John Foster. John had just come home from the 40th World Shooting Championships, held in Phoenix. Approximately 60 nations represented by 800 of the world's best shooters competed. John won gold medal in 300M army rifle match and also silver in the 300M free rifle. He was a member on 4 winning US teams and on 4 second place teams. The Russian team won overall championship w/18 gold medals, and US came in 2nd w/ 12 gold medals. The World Shooting Championships ("ISU") ranks second only to the Olympics as the premier shooting event and are also held every 4 years in between the Olympic years. Matches for rifle, pistol and shotgun. John, well known to shooters in this area having been a member of the University of MT rifle team which competed against Hamilton and Victor Rifle Clubs in Western MT Smallbore League from 1953-1957. He represented the USA in the Olympics in 1960 and 1968. He has a gold and a silver medal in previous World Shooting Championships as well as being on several other world championship USA teams. He's the current national Indoor Gallery champion w/a perfect 800 score (the second time this has ever been done) and was second in the recently fired outdoor position championship at Camp Perry. He was accompanied by his wife Tricia, a championship shooter in her own right and also a member of the USA team, and their new baby daughter Anne. He will be leaving shortly for his second tour of duty in So.Vietnam.
