Scope and Contents

Headline: World Class Athletes in Big Sky Country - A Physical Kind of Country Seems to Draw a Physical Kind of Person. Jack Foster was born in "Ohio" (actually, Muskegon, MI), studied Forestry in Missoula and trained in the Army 60 -70 hours per week at Ft.Benning, GA for 5 World Championships and 2 Olympic games in the 60's and 70's. Shooting events are the 3rd most popular in participants w/ the English Match (prone position) having the largest number of countries participating. Two people per event from each country is the maximum allowed. Jack took 4th place in the 50M and 7th twice in the 300M Olympic rifle shooting events. He won 5 World Shooting Championships and his wife Trisha has won 2 World Championships herself. Jack moved to the Bozeman area with a mail order business so he wouldn't be dependent on the local economy, but could enjoy the natural benefits of the area. Since the MSU indoor shooting range has been torn down, he now drives regularly to Big Timber so his high school daughter can keep up as a competitive shooter. He hopes another indoor range will be set up in the area, but realizes it's the small towns in MT that have the most shooters and sustained interest in the sport. Last paragraph mentions other Olympic/World class athletes. Note: Daughter Jean was the shooter. Born in 1972. The article doesn't state how old she was at the time so estimate 13-16 years old puts the article date in the range of 1985 - 1988.
