Photo of Foster aiming rifle. Caption:In his competitive shooting days, Jack Foster earned 33 international medals and shot in two Olympics. One of Montana's greatest Shooters and perhaps the country's greatest coach have finally been recognized spots in the United States' International Shooting Hall of Fame. Two-time Olympian Jack Foster, of Bozeman, will be inducted into the hall in Dallas, Texas, in January along with one of his coaches, Bill Pullum, of Sun City, AZ. Foster, 59, competed at the elite level internationally for 18 years and won 33 individual medals, set two individual world records and was part of three team world records. Most notably, Foster is the only shooter to ever win world championships at both moving and stationary targets. At the 1961 World Shooting Championships, he won the gold medal in the running deer at 100 meters with centerfire rifles. Since then, the event has been downsized to air rifles at 10 meters at a moving bullseye and is called running target. At the 1966,'70 and '74 World Championships, Foster won gold medals in the 300-meter stationary target event. Foster was also a member of the 1960 and 1968 Olympic teams, finishing fourth in the three-position rifle event and seventh in the 300-M event in Rome. In his college years, he competed with the University of Montana Rifle Team and earned All-America shooting honors while completing a degree in forestry in 1958. After college, he continued his shooting with the U.S.Army Marksmanship Unit, earning international honors until his retirement in 1977 as a Lieutenant Colonel. (officially retired,"Honorable Discharge" June 1,1980). Foster currently owns and operates Accuracy International, a mail order company for competetive shooters in Bozeman with his wife, the former Trish Kinsella, a former collegiate All-America in shooting at West Virginia and also a competitor at the 1966 and 1970 World Championships. They have two daughters, Anne and Jean. Jean is also a former West Virginia shooter and is a current member of the U.S. Shooting Team hoping to earn a spot on the 1996 Olympic Team. Pullman, 75, was head coach of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit internatiional rifle squad from 1962-66 and led the 1964 Olympic Team to two gold, one silver and two bronze medals and the 1968 team to gold and silver medals. Etc.... Induction ceremonies for Foster and Pullum will be at the SHOT Show, the annual trade show of the shooting industry, on Jan. 13 in Dallas.
