Scope and Contents
Achievements: 1961 - 1974 World Shooting Championships. World Moving Target Championships Profile: *John Foster- one of the earliest members of the USAMU. *Came of active duty 1958 and after his basic course was assigned to USAMU. *Stayed at the unit until 1961...left active duty. *Returned to active duty in 1964 and again assigned to USAMU. *He served two tours of duy in Vietnam; 1966-1967 and 1971-1972. *After his first tour, Foster became OIC and head coach of the International Rifle Section, and retained that position after returning from his second tour in Vietnam. *In addition, became the acting commander of the unit for a period of about 8 months. *Being one of the early members of the USAMU, he inspired others to join the Army and request assignment to the unit. One in particular, was Lones W. Wiggger Jr. *During his career, Foster won 5 Gold, 14 Silver, and 1 Bronze for a total of 30 medals in international competition. This accomplishment places him fifth in all time medal count for U.S. shooters. He has also set 2 individual world records and has been a member of 3 world record setting teams. HE WAS INDUCTED INTO THE USAMU HALL OF FAME IN 1988, June 24.
