* "BASSHAM-LED U.S. TEAM CLAIMS CISM VICTORY" Bassham, firing a new CISM record score of 578 in the 300 meter and 273 in rapid-fire Military Rifle,claimed both gold medals for the U.S. Companion shooter Maj.John Foster, gained runner-up positions for the silver medals in both events. In team action, the four man squad of Bassham, Foster, Goldsby and Maj.Lones Wigger, won gold medals in each rifle event, for a total of 10 gold medals in their victory haul. * "TEXAN GETS 3 GOLDS" 41st World Shooting Championships. Bassham won the standing gold medal with 370 points. John Foster, also fired a 370 but was awarded the silver medal. Tie-breaking rules count the final 10 shots and Bassham scored a 96 to Foster's 93. Foster won the individual kneeling position with 387 points to give the United States seven of the eight first place medals for free rifle shooting. Foster won the team gold medal for the kneeling event with 1,531 points, edging the U.S. into second place by just one point. Bassham won the individual aggregate standing with 1,147 points.
