Apr.5: Lanny Bassham wins the Air Rifle. The U.S. won 6 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals. (para.6) The winner of the silver medal was the American John Foster, with 379 points...etc. (papr.9) By teams the results were as follows: 1st Place, United States with Bassham, Vande Zande, Bahrman and Foster, 1,478 points. 2nd, Cuba 1,461, and 3rd Canada 1,459.
Apr.8: Photo of Lones Wigger, caption; Lones Wigger, of United States shows his gold medal in 3-position competition. (para.5) The United States that until the third day had achieved 14 medals out of possible 16, unexpectedly lost 4 more yesterday.....etc. In Standard Rifle, Individual, 3-position: 1st place,S.Thynell, Sweden, w/572. 2nd place Ernest Vande Zande, USA w/570 and 3rd place John Foster w/568. In Standard Rifle, Teams, 1st Place United States; Ernest Vande Zande, John Foster, Boyd Goldsby and Norman Harris w/2,244. 2nd, Canada, 2,218 and 3rd Cuba, 2,203. Today ends the 5th Benito Juarez Int'l Shooting Tournament with the final and individual Olympic Pit tests and defense shot....This last test will be exhibition.
