Article date; July 23, 1970. Headline: Phoenician takes rifle meet title. Maj.John foster of Phoenix, won the Standard Rifle event as the 10th U.S. Int'l championships moved down to the climax - the beginning today of the 300 M Free Rifle and Int'l. Claybird events. Maj. Foster capped 3 days of standard rifle shooting w/a 573x600 for a 1,708 x 1,800 aggregate. His nearest competitor was Marine CWO David Boyd w/ 563 and 1,700 aggregate. Foster fired a 365 to hold onto second place in the Air Rifle event which was won by Maj. Lones Wigger w/ 1,132 x 1.200. Capt. Margaret Murdock who won the Ladies Standard Rifle event in 1966 World Shooting Championship matches at Wiesbaden Germany , w/ 558 x 600, topped that score each of the 3 days and finished w/a 570 and an aggregate of 1,694 for first place. Tricia Foster was second w/ an aggregate of 1,658.
