Scope and Contents

Headline: Records fall in shooting competitions. Records fell in the Int'l. Ladies Prone Standard Rifle and single-course Air Pistol events at Black Canyon Shooting Range and the world record was equaled in the English Match. In winning the English Match event of the 10th U.S. Int'l event, Maj. Lones Wigger needed one more point to top the U.S. record in the same event. The U.S. record, not recognized by the ISU, is a 599 out of a possible 600, fired by Army Res. Maj.Bruce Meredith in 1967. Meredith placed second yesterday with 596, and 4 shooters fired 593s including David Boyd, defending world champion who set the current 598 world record. The record firing indicates world records may fall in good numbers when shooters from all over the world come to Phoenix Oct. 17-26 for the 40th World Shooting Championships. The new Ladies Standard Rifle record was set by Marylou Adler...who fired a 587. At least 6 women topped the former record. Second was E. Espointour, w/583 and third by Tricia Foster with the same score.
