A gusty early morning wind blew 300 meter Free Rifle scores "out the window" at Black Canyon Shooting Range yesterday, enabling the only woman shooter, Capt. Margaret Murdock, to fight her way into second place. The matches end today with the picking of teams to represent the U.S. in the world matches here this fall. Capt. Murdock, one of the world's best shooters in the standing position, topped the field w/a 362 in that position and came through w/a 372 kneeling, for 1,101-just 3 points behind the day's leaders-Maj.Lones Wigger and David Boyd,both with 1104s. When the last shot went down range, Maj.Wigger was still leading for the two days w/ 2251,Capt.Murdock was second with 2226, and Maj.John Foster also with 2226, was ranked third, while Lt.John Writer moved into fourth place with 2222, and WO Boyd was fifth with 2212.
