Black Canyon Range, Phoenix, AZ. John and Tricia Foster were the only husband and wife combination firing in the 10th U.S. Int'l Shooting Championships. They will be shooting in the 40th World Shooting Championships in the fall in Phoenix. Both will be firing in rifle events. One other husband and wife team fired in the championships, but the husband, Mernice Alkire, fired in the skeet match, while his wife, Marie-sister of Capt.Margaret Murdock-fired smallbore rifle. Foster ranked next to his army teammate, Maj. Lones Wigger, in the winning ranks during the two-week rifle matches. He won the 3-position Standard Rifle event; placed 2nd in the Smallbore Free Rifle event ; placed 2nd in the Air Rifle event; and took 4th in the 300-meter Free Rifle Event. He won the Standing Position portion of the 300-meter with 1085x1200. Tricia Foster, who won the national Women's gallery (indoor) position rifle championship in 1964 when she was a student at the University of West Virginia, is a regular winner of smallbore position and prone tournaments. Tricia made the U.S. World Championships Team by placing second in the Ladies Standard Rifle event. She fired top score, a 587x600, in the Women's Prone Postal Team match.
