P.419.2670; A gigantic cup in the very best hands: Gary Anderson and William Blankenship receive together the individual world champions of their country, the challenge cup instituted by President Nasser from the UAR representative, Chafik Mehanna. To the right, Franklin L. Orth (USA) whose team produced the most individual winners in Wiesbaden and for that reason won the cup. American marksmen won 3 titles with record-breaking performances Thursday to give the U.S. an unbeatable lead of 16 gold medals in the 39th World Shooting Championships. Anderson took the combination laurels with a points total of 1,156 out of 1,200. John Foster was third with 1,153. Foster broke the world record in the kneeling position with 391 out of possible 400. The third gold medal was won by the four-gun U.S. squad. Anderson's 1,156 points, Foster's 1,153, Thompson's 1,152 and Wigger's 1,141 added up to a new world record of 4,602 from a possible 4,800 in the three-position free rifle team event. * Photo and caption. 12 Great Falls Tribune, Sat.
