Caption, The U.S. Ladies Team captured second place in the 39th World Championships. "A 52-Nation Shoot-Out".....the three ladies representing the United States calmly shot our country into a high place among the best women shots from 51 other nations. Without their beautiful control, they would have come loose at the joints and been hopelessly lost among the toughest rifle competitors the participating nations could muster. And believe me, these nations take it seriously-especially the USSR...etc. Russia has gone all out for competitive shooting during the past several years, and some people had expected its marksmen to offer the toughest competition throughout the entire match program. As it turned out, they did, but it wasn't nearly so tough as that offered by our U.S.shooters. As the match progressed it was apparent that our lady shooters, even though they had shot better in the past, were performing in true championship form. Etc. The winner was Poland. Margaret Thompson, one of the best rifle shots in the world, was second-high individual, having been outpointed in this match. Hungary won third in the team match. The article continues....talked about noticing how many 1st and 2nd place winners were using Anschutz rifles. It also talks about other matches...Smallbore Rifle, Prone English Match, Kneeling Match, Three-position Free Rifle, Army Rifle, Standard Rifle Matches. A lot more about Margaret Thompson. Gary Anderson, Don Adams, and David Boyd.
