The International Shooting Union yesterday picked Phoenix as the site for the 1970 World Shooting Championships which are expected to be attended by about 4,500 officials and competitors from 70 nations. Franklin Orth, VP and U.S. representative to the union, emerged from its general assembly to announce the Phoenix bid had been accepted over one from Mexico City by a vote of 72 to 30. Orth first submitted the Phoenix offer to the ISU executive council Tuesday, and Michael Tipa, director of international rifle and shotgun competitions of the NRA, made a 15-minute statement of support to the general assembly. * "More About...World championship shoot" ...Black Canyon range in Phoenix is ready for the 1970 world championships. It will be the finest and most complete facility of its kind anywhere in the world. Maj. Foster, a wounded Vietnam veteran now stationed with the USAMTU at Ft.Benning, is the son of Frank and Catherine Foster, Youngtown.
