* "Victor Wins Two From ROTC Squad" 4-position match. Foster was high scorer for team w/ 392. * "Hamilton Takes Class A Match" 4-position match. Hunton and Foster both shot 382 for high scores. * "St.Ignatius Wins Two Rifle Matches" 4-position match. Foster shot 387 for high score. * "MSU Riflemen Regional Shoot Winners" MSU sharpshooters won the sectional shoot at Seattle, qualifying for the NRA Intercollegiate championships with a score of 1,430. Foster was 2nd high shooter w/290. Larry David 1st w/291. * "Rifle Team Wins Second In Inter-regional Meet". University riflemen placed second in a four-way shoulder to shoulder match with the Univ.of Nevada, Eastern Washington college and Gonzaga Univ. Don Schessler and John Foster led the Silvertip squad with identical scores of 383. * "MSU Team Third in Nation" Picture. MSU ROTC small arms team placed third in the nation in the annual William Randolph Hearst National ROTC Rifle Matches. Teams from 1,129 colleges and universities participated. Foster was high scorer on the MT team with 196. Foster's score made him high individual in the 6th Army area and 4th in the nation. * The Montana Kaimin, MSU, Missoula, MT. Feb.16,1956. "Rifle Teams Place High In Nationals" The MSU rifle team, paced by John Foster, won 3rd place in William Randolph Hearst smallbore tournament. The William Randolph Hearst tournament is a postal match held annually in conjunction with the Dept.of the Army. For the past few years, the Grizzlies have consistently placed very high in the national standings.
