* "University Student Leads Riflemen", "MSU Student Wins Montana Gallery Championship Shoot" and "Student Beats All In Montana Match", Shooters New's. Montana State gallery Rifle Championship, Apr. 14-15,1956 (?) John Foster won the match with a score of 1557 out of a possible 1600. Top scores in the iron sight matches were Foster, 769; Brigham, 769. Foster was high in the any sights matches with 788. 77 shooters fired during the 2-day match. Foster received a sterling silver trophy, a smaller copy of the permanent State Championship trophy donated by Col.Wallace Huidekoper of Big Timber. * "Rifle Team Goes to Army Meet", "Rifle Competition Sunday at Fort" and "Shooters Will Attend California Rifle Match". Sixth Army Rifle Match, Camp Roberts, CA, Apr.30 to May 4, 1956. Montana's Army Reserve rifle team will leave for Camp Roberts, CA, Thurs. where the Montana sharpshooters will compete for team and individual honors. Four Missoula men won berths on the 8-man team which was selected earlier this month ont eh Ft.Missoula rifle range. The best shot on the team, and a condidate for the United States Olympic team, is PFC John R.Foster, a student at MSU, who has been winning trophies in statewide and national competitions for the past years. Team and individual winners will compete in the National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry, OH, this summer. * Thurs.,Mar.22,'56. "Missoula Reserve Units, Foster Win Rifle Honors" Missoula Army Reserve unit rifle teams place 2nd and 3rd in a rifle meet between Montana's forty Army Reserve units. Headquarters, 1st Battalion, 381st Infantry scored 1811 points to cop second place (Foster's unit). PFC John Foster, was high individual scorer with 388 points. Foster, who is also a ROTC student at MSU, recently won the Seattle Intercollegiate firing and placed high in the national William Randolph Hearst trophy firing. Foster and Hayes (who placed 2nd w/381 points) will lead the team of 13 Montanars to the Sixth Army firing at Camp Roberts,CA, April 30 to May 4.
