A scope beside him. 4 patches on his shooting jacket; 1955 and 1956, Distinguished Rifleman, U.S. Army Rifle Team, 1956 Nat'l Rifle Assoc., and Sixth Army Reserve 1955. * Newspaper clippings: -"Hellgate, Victor Match Winners" Hellgate sharpshooters defeated Hamilton 1,911 to 1,883 in a league match. Foster was high scorer w/396. He shot 100 Pr.,99 Sit.,99 Kn. and 98 O.H. Victor won two matches from MSU-ROTC 1,918 to 1,883 in class A, 1,794 to 1,759 in class B. Foster shooting 388 (high score) for the University team. -"Frenchtown Takes A Match, MSU Wins B Contest" Frenchtown sharpshooters 1,899 to MSU 1,888. Foster was high scorer for MSU w/389. He shot 100 prone, 97 sit.,97 Kn. and 95 O.H. -"Hellgate Scores" Hellgate sharpshooters hit 1,870. Foster was high scorer w/ 391 aggregate, 4-position. -"Hellgate Scores" Hellgate sharpshooters hit 1,887. Foster was high scorer w/ 391 " " -"MSU Rifle Team Loses in Match" ...defeated in a shoulder to shoulder match held at Bozeman, Score 1912 to 1875. Lones Wigger was high individual w/ 391 and John Foster a close second w/ 388. -"MSU Rifle Team Invited to Ball"...to a Military Ball at Logan, Utah on April 26. Two MSU men took trophies in the recent local league meet of Missoula, Frenchtown, Hamilton, and Hellgate. John Foster took the Mau Jones trophy and the first aggregate trophy. -"Rifle Team to Compete in Matches at Corvallis" Apr.18 MSU to participate in Sixth Army Area competition. John Foster and 6 others will make the trip. Foster participated in the State Match last weekend at the Missoula Moose Club. The team in sixth among 50 teams in the Sixth Army Area. -"Schuetzen League" Any sight scores: Foster came in 3rd w/a score of 462.
