Distinguished military students have the option of applying for a Regular Army commission as part of the distinguished military graduate program. From these application lists, some 550 second lieutenants are commissioned yearly in the Regular Army. They receive exactly the same commissions as do graduates of West Point. Foster took 1st place in the expert class of the Marine Corps Cup Match, w/.30 caliber rifles. Competition at the national matches was between active service personnel and reservists of the several military services. * "Victor Riflemen Defeat ROTC" Foster did not shoot in the match. * "MSU Rifle Team Defeats St.Ignatius"...1889 to 1886. Foster was high scorer with 386 points. He also fired a perfect 100 in the sitting positon. * "MSU Rifle Team Challenges MSC" MSU ROTC rifle team hopes for 2 straight victories in their 2nd quarterly Betsy rifle match. Foster will not compete because of a broken collarbone. * "State College Riflemen Win" A recent shoulder to shoulder meet conducted at the ROTC indoor rifle range at MSU. MSC beat MSU 1888 to 1864. Foster couldn't compete due to broken collarbone. * "John Foster Tops Firers" Foster of MSU topped all w/389 and fired a 95 out of 100 in the offhand position.
