MSU Varsity 1915; ROTC 1904. MSC 1891; ROTC 1883. Foster was top scorer for both Varsity and ROTC with 389. Foster is one of 2 members holding the 1864 musket used as a traveling trophy ("Betsy Rotcy"). * "MSU Rifle Team Places Sixth in Saturday Match" Western Montana Conference match. 3 members of the team received individual trophies. John Foster was 3rd with aggregate scoring. * "Moose, Franklin Leaders in Final Shootoff" Western Montana Gallery league shootoff. Hellgate finished second. Bob Franklin won the Mau-Jones trophy for grand aggregate w/389. Foster was 3rd w/ 384. * "Two Teams Leave Friday for Bozeman NRA Shoot", "MSU Riflemen Fourth in NRA Contest", "MSU Rifle Team Takes Fourth Place". NRA Intercollegiate Sectional Matches. Two MSU five-man rifle teams competed. 8 colleges competed. Washington State won w/1418. Oregon State w/1413, MSC w/1406 and MSU (Foster's team) w/1397. MSU's second team finished w/1376. * "MSU Team 12th In Field of 51 ROTC Units", "Army Rifle Team Places 12th in Area Competition". Sixth Army area William Randolph Hearst National Rifle matches. John Foster of the MSU team was in fourth place out of a total of 255 firers competing with a score of 194 out of 200 (4-Position) * "Foster, Stahl Top Schuetzen Shoot". The regular Sunday rifle tournament was sparked by the shooting form of MSU's John Foster. John, shooting iron sights, posted an new record for the course as well as a team record w/teammate Doug Jones. The money was won by G. Gilbertson and Foster.
