Officials said only 4,400 athletes out of the 7,700 entered will be permitted to parade. The US, with a team of 403, has been cut back to 245, including 4 officials. Russia, though it has only about 300 athletes on its squad, gets the same number. So does Germany. M.Garroni, general secretary of the games, said the decision had been forced upon them because of the large number of athletes entered.
