* The Bayonet, Ft.Benning, Feb.24'61. "Two Olympians Assigned To Keep Up the Fire Unit" Photo of Foster and caption; Lt.John Foster, the 9th Infantry's 1960 Olympic rifleman, cleans his favorite match weapon. The costom-made caliber .22 free rifle enabled him to place 7th in the tough Int'l Olympic competition at Rome. He holds the Distinguished Rifle badge and earned the "President's 100" tab in '60.

Foster of Co.A, swept through both the recently concluded Armed Forces Int'l Matches and the Third Army Rifle Championships at Main Post. In the process, shattered nearly all existing records for both championship matches. Capturing 50-meter Int'l Free Rifle Match w/a total of 544 points. He ended by firing 880-55V to win Service Rifle competition in Third U.S.Army's individual championship. Foster grabbed first place in the 200-yard Standing Match with a 99-3V; the Slow Fire Rifle aggregate w/ 485-34V; and the Standing Aggregate w/ 194-6V. He also placed 3rd in the Rapid Fire aggregate w/ 395-21V.
* USAAMU's Annual Tournament of Champions, Ft.Benning, Apr.28-29. "Six Records Broken at Ft.Benning Match" - "AMU Sets 5 New Rifle Records":
In team events; the 2-man metallic-sight, prone, kneeling, standing match, 5 out of 7 competing teams surpassed the old mark of 579x600. The top score was 589 by Lt.John Foster and Capt.Dan Puckel. In 4-man events, Army teams raised the metallic and any-sight records for the prone-standing courses of fire. Foster, Pool, Puckel, and Trew were high in metallic sights w/ 1569x1600. In any-sights event it was Foster, Lones Wigger, Gary Anderson and Tommy Pool with 1573.
* "Lt.John R. Foster Second In Army Shoot" 1st Lt. John Foster, stationed at Ft.Benning, with the U.S. Army Infantry Center, finished second recently in the Running Deer Range event of the U.S.1961 International Shooting Team Trials. Foster compiled a score of 417 of 500.
* Results of...On the rifle range the combined rapid fire match at 200 and 300 yards, Foster was 3rd with 100-6V.
