* Photo: P.419.1587.4, NRA Nat'l Smallbore Rifle Prone Championships, Camp Perry, OH. 1st Lt.John Foster won the Hoppe Memorial Trophy. The trophy is a large sterling silver cup w/handles of both sides. A replica on a plaque is attached to the display stand. A trophy rifle is on a stand with the plaque below "Hoppe Trophy Awarded Metallic Sight Champion, Nat'l Smallbore Rifle Matches. * Letter from the NRA, congratulating John Foster for winning the trophy. * "Former Springfield Resident Cops Rifle Title At Camp Perry" 1st Lt.John Foster fired a 1,598-122x to win the prone metallic sight championship match at the national rifle and pistol competition. In the four-position any sight match, Foster was 2nd with 388-14x. * "Anderson Breaks Records"...in the Fourth (Int'l) Interservice Matches at Ft. Benning and immediately smashed a pair of records as he captured the Free Rifle crown with an 1,161 point total for the 3-position event. The Army shot its way to victory in the team competition with a four-man total of 4,552, 6 points above the old record. Firing on the championship team were John Foster, William Krilling, Verle Wright and Presley Kendall.
