Newspaper clipping – Bozeman Chronicle. Jean Foster. “Foster taking aim today” Olympic Games – Sydney. , Sept.19, 2000
Scope and Contents
Foster, 28, grew up with a range in the basement of the family’s Bozeman home and was among the Olympic shooting world virtually since birth. Today Foster matches her father with her 2nd trip to the Olympics. Foster competes in the women’s 50 meter 3-position rifle event with hopes of improving on her 12th- place finish at the 1996 Atlanta games. Shooting wasn’t something I loved from the beginning. It was something I worked hard at and grew to love” Foster got her 1st match win at the end of a shooting camp. Then, while in high school, she beat her father for the 1st time. “It was a fun thing that she dabbled in,” Jack Foster said. “She didn’t get serious until high school and that was about the time she was going up like a rocket and I was falling like a rock. Now the scores she shoots, and everybody shoots, are in a totally different league than when I was shooting.” While outscoring her father for the 1st time helped keep Foster in the sport, it’s her father’s style of training that may be aiding her now, etc. Goes on to talk about her shooting style, past successes and hopes for the future in shooting.
