Scope and Contents
BOZEMAN CHRONICLE: “Foster makes Olympic team”. Named to the team after finishing second in the 3 X 20 rifle competition at Olympic shooting trials in Atlanta. Foster, 23, has been shooting since she was 9 years old, she was stunned to make the team. Foster was 1st Sat., 2nd Sun., and 3rd Mon., but all 3 days’ scores were combined to determine the Olympic team. She finished with an aggregate score of 1919.8, behind the 1928 scored by Elizabeth Bourland (TX). Scores were lower than expected, Foster said, mainly due to the cold, wet weather at the Wolf Creed Complex. Foster will also chase a spot in the air rifle, starting Wed., at Wolf Creek Range (where Olympic competition will be held). Foster joins her father Jack as the 2nd Olympian in the family – he made the team in ’60 and ’68 while her mother Tricia was a world champion. After graduating from Bozeman High, Foster competed for West Virginia Univ., where she won 3 national team championships and took 2nd in smallbore rifle as a junior. Since May, she’s been a resident at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs where she can shoot full time indoors at a 50-meter range, the Olympic distance, etc. BILLING’s GAZETTE: Mostly the same info. As the Chronicle. She told family and friends that she was really pointing her efforts toward the 2000 Olympics in Sidney, Australia. This match was really, just for training purposes. Said her father, Jack, “She was pointing more toward the next Olympics. She didn’t have that much Int’l experience.” “Also, it’s surprising that she did it in the .22 caliber event. She was more worried about air rifle, which she thought was her stronger event.” USA TODAY: Only a sentence about her in “Shooting” paragraph.
