The Civil Liberties Act: Japanese American Redress – September 17, 1987: The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Civil Liberties Act of 1987 (H.R. 442) by a vote of 243 to 141. April 20, 1988: The U.S. Senate passed S 1009 by a vote of 69 to 27. July 27, 1988: The U.S. Senate accepted the Conference Report by a voice vote. August 4, 1988: The U.S. House of Representatives accepted the Conference Report by a vote of 257 to 156 and sent the legislation to President Reagan. August 10, 1988: President Reagan signed H.R. 442 (The Civil Liberties Act) into law (Public Law 100-383).
