Correspondence between Gov. Hunt and Guy Robertson Re: Mayor Ora Bever., July 22-27, 1944
Scope and Contents
In part, Robertson writes: “After we receive the communication from Mr. Bever and the Town Council of Powell, we endeavored to make a complete investigation of community sentiment down there. Mr. Carroll spent about ten days and interviewed a great many people and he was unable to find the adverse sentiment that was indicated in the Mayor and Councilmen’s communication. After this investigation had been completed, I asked for an appointment with Mr. Bever and the Town Council and at this meeting they informed me that they would not be so insistent that we prohibit the evacuees’ visiting in Powell if they had some assurance that the evacuees would be moved from the Heart Mountain Project after the war. I told them I would try to get this assurance from either Mr. Myer or Mr. Ickes.” Etc.
