As I write this, forces opposed to Reclamation are preparing to wage a bitter fight upon appropriations for Reclamation for the fiscal year, 1937. Sectional prejudice and lack of understanding make it difficult for the handful of men in the House of Representatives from the western states to impress upon their colleagues the important economic factors surrounding Reclamation. Etc....The fact that is taking place constitutes the strongest argument for Reclamation. The theory of removing people from lands which cannot be operated profitably and placing them upon lands which can be operated at a profit, is recognized as sound by thinking people, regardless of any political partisanship because the surplus of agricultural products has been brought about by the farming of unproductive lands. Those of us in Park County and in Wyoming who are acquainted with lands such as those proposed to be irrigated under the Heart Mountain Division know that the lands are of such character as will offer a profitable field for the production of agricultural commodities. Mr. Greever continues to point out the money laid out and monies retrieved through development of the 45,000 acres to be brought into cultivation by the construction of the Heart Mountain Project, 500-600 farm homes, economic agricultural units, together with other institutions which go to make up community life, and we will find that there has been created a veritable paradise on the lands at one-time considered at least semi-desert in character.
