Fair Play Committee – Newspaper article: The Rafu Shimpo, L.A., CA – “Heart Mountain Resisters Recognized by Hawaii Vets – The 442nd Veterans club of Hawaii commends the Fair Play Committee for their unswerving effort to fight for justice and democracy.” By Takeshi Nakayama – Whereas, the resisters expressed their loyalty to the U.S. by responding ‘yes’ to Question 27 (of a government loyalty questionnaire distributed in the camps), that they would serve in the armed forces of the U.S., but on the condition that their rights be restored first; and ‘yes’ on Question 28, that they would swear unqualified allegiance to the U.S. and forswear allegiance to the emperor of Japan; and whereas, in November 1944, the resisters were found guilty of draft resistance and were sent to a federal penitentiary, however were freed on Dec. 27, 1945 by an appeals court’s reversal of their conviction....”, etc.
