Palacio Quitandinha, Petropolis: Also known as The Imperial City. Located 42 mi.NE of Rio de Janeiro. 6 floors, 440 rooms, floor area 12 acres. Once the summer home of Brazil's last emperor, this enormous palace houses furniture, paintings and jewels from the Brazilian empire and is used as a convention center. Formerly a luxury resort hotel. In 1947 the Palacio was the site of the Rio Treaty, attended by U.S. President Harry Truman. National Congress building. Monument to the Bandeiras in Sao Paulo Brazil. It commemorates the 17th century bandeiras, or settling expeditions into the interior of Brazil and the bandeirantes that participated in them.
