Program - Yellowstone Boys Ranch Chapel - The Service of Dedication, Oct.11, 1970
Scope and Contents
Chapel History. From the very beginning in 1957, there had always been a plan to on day build a chapel at Yellowstone Boys Ranch. However, no substantial gifts to this particular project were received for several years. In 1962, Dr. Harold C. Schwartz, of Butte, made a designated gift of $5,000 toward the chapel fund as a memorial to his wife, Jane. He continued adding to this fund until it had increased to $13,000 at the time of his death in 1967. Since then, his family has made further gifts of more than $10,000 in memory of their father. In 1967, The Kresge Foundation of Detroit, MI offered a $10,000 completion grant toward an estimated $88,000 construction cost, providing all additional funds were raised within eighteen months. This challenge was immediately presented to the Boys Ranch "donor Family" with amazing results. Etc. When the Kresge Foundation check arrived, it was endorsed on the back by Mr. Stanley S. Kresge, with his signature and these words, "In the name and for the sake of Jesus Christ." The completion cost of this chapel is in excess of $100,000 and about half of that amount has been spent in making the building one which can be used every day of the week. In addition to a sanctuary large enough to accommodate all the boys, staff and visiting friends, it includes chaplain's study and conference room, choir rehearsal and music practice room, plus Sunday School rooms for at least eight different groups of boys. This Yellowstone Boys Ranch chapel is a monument to the generosity and Christian concern of many hundreds of thoughtful people.
