Newspaper clippings: “State Rifle team Wins at Pittsburg Invitational” The varsity rifle team of Kansas State placed first and second in Pittsburg. KSU had 2 entries in the meet against 11 other teams. Members of the first-place team were Henry Thorne, Ronald Horinek, Mike Wentz, and Margaret Thompson. Miss Thompson won second place in the individual competition. “KS Riflemen Win Match” K-State’s varsity rifle team won the Mississippi Valley smallbore rifle grand championship postal match fired at Washington University, St. Louis, in April. The State shooters took first-place honors with a score of 1,452 of a possible of a possible 1,500. Members of K-State’s team were Margaret Thompson, Michael Wentz, Henry Thorne, Jamie Leipper and Allen Boge.
