Manhattan Mercury –“Wildcat Squad Sets Pace in Local Rifle Tournament” – “Thompson’s Deadly-Shooting Accuracy is Again Key to Victory”, KSU’s Margaret Thompson turned in an outstanding shooting performance over the weekend, while participating in the Eastern Kansas Gallery Tournament, and walked off with nine first place gold medals, two bronze medals, and two traveling trophies. There were 75 marksmen representing five states – Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado, and Oklahoma. Thompson’s outstanding shooting also won her the Jess Mosteller Trophy for the high aggregate score of the next four matches using metallic sights. She will keep the two roving trophies for one year. The young K-State student also set the pace for the Wildcats’ Varsity Rifle Team, made up also of Michael Wentz, James Leipper, and Robert Dorian, as they captured the four-team event with a 1541 score out of a possible 1600. The ‘Cats’ M and M combination – Margaret and Mike, also won the two-man event with a 389 out of 400 possible score.
