39th World Shooting Championships. The American Rifleman, “U.S. Team wins 17 gold medals” by Michael Tipa, 1966, July 14-24
Scope and Contents
39th World Shooting Championships. The American Rifleman, Sept. issue. “U.S. Team wins 17 gold medals”, by Michael Tipa, NRA staff. One of the most interesting facets of the 39th World Championships was the performance of St. Margaret L. Thompson, WAC, as a firing member of the U.S. 300-meter Free-Rifle and the 50-meter Smallbore Teams which established new World Records. In addition to providing the pivotal scores in the Free-Rifle and Smallbore World Record Team events, she proceeded to win the Ladies Standard Rifle 3-position event. Petite Lt. Thompson has proven to the doubters that a lady is fully capable of firing the same program as the more stalwart men.
