5th Pan American Games, Winnipeg, CA. Newspaper clippings: “’Great Ever’ Opening Set” – “Pan-Ams At A Glance” – “Two silvers for Canada”, Margaret Thompson, a 24-year-old U.S. army lieutenant, won the individual gold medal and paced the U.S. to victory in the team event Friday in the three-position rifle competition. – Topeka Capital-Journal, “Games in Canada Have Area Tinge.” – Kansas City Times, picture of Margaret posing with her rifle, caption; “More Accurate Than The Men – Topeka Woman Ties World Rifle Mark” – The Columbus, Georgia, Ledger, “2 Ladies Steal Pan-Am Scene”, Miss Thompson, not entirely out of place in a shooting competition because she’s an Army first lieutenant, blasted out a world record of 391 point for shooting a smallbore rifle in a kneeling position, en route to another world mark of 1152 points total for the three-position. And with Margaret’s score in the bank, the U.S. smallbore rifle team set a third world record of 4571 points for the team gold medal”.
