10th U.S. International Championships and Final Tryouts for 1970 World Shooting Championships, Phoenix, AZ. Newspaper clippings – Capital, “City Woman Picked for Shooting Team” – “Topekan 2nd in Shooting” – “Team Tabs Murdock”, Topekan Margaret Murdock was one of the first seven members named to the U.S. shooting team that will compete in the 40th World Shooting Championships here in October. The Arizona Republic, “Wind sends shooting scores down – Lone woman entry gets second place”, A gusty early morning wind blew 300-meter Free Rifle scores ‘out the window’ at Black Canyon Shooting Range yesterday, enabling the only woman shooter, Capt. Margaret Murdock, to fight her way into second place. Captain Murdock, one of the world’s best shooters in the standing position, topped the field with a 362 in that position and came through with a 372 kneeling, for 1101 – just three points behind the day’s leaders – Maj.
