VII Pan American Games – Newspaper clippings. In Spanish, roughly translated (in part) – Extraordinary shooter, she surpassed her teammates and the best Mexican shooters in the English Match. NRA Tournament News, Dec. issue, “In the three-position smallbore that climaxed Pan Am rifle competition, Murdock opened with 395 in prone and then racked up a world record 385 in offhand that helped boost her aggregate to a gold-winning 1166. Maj. Lones Wigger Jr. of Ft. Benning, whose offhand record Murdock broke, finished strongly in the kneeling match to take silver with 1162, and Jack Writer’s 1152 helped the U.S. team to a final gold medal with a 4640 total. Murdock’s performance was particularly outstanding in that she had not had time to fire her rifle between the Phoenix tryouts and her pre-Game practice in Mexico; it symbolized U.S. supremacy if not domination of shooting in the Americas.
